National Honor Society Selection Procedure

 

    The By-Laws of the Lewiston National Honor Society states the membership requirements and qualifications of members and potentially new members of the National Honor Society.

Article V: Membership

Section 1: Membership in this chapter shall be bestowed upon a student.  Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service.  Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.

Section 2:  Membership shall be known as active and graduate.  Active members shall become graduate members upon graduation.  Graduation members have no voice vote in chapter affairs.

Section 3: New members shall be inducted at a special ceremony.

Section 4:  Members who are seniors in good standing are eligible to be nominated by their chapters to compete in the National Honor Society Scholarship Program.

Section 5:  Any National Honor Society member who transfers from another school an brings a letter from the former chapter advisor or principal shall be considered a member in the Lewiston Consolidated School National Honor Society.

Section 6.  Any member who resigns or is dismissed is never again eligible for membership or its benefits.

 

Article VI. Membership Eligibility

Section 1.  To be eligible for membership the candidate must be a member of the sophomore, junior or senior class.  Candidates must have been in attendance at the school for one semester or a transfer member in good standing.

Section 2: Candidates must have a cumulative scholastic average of at least 3.25 (on a 4-point scale).  Candidates shall be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, scholarship, and character.

Section 3:  The selection of members will require students to complete an accurately fill out the form for NHS and by a majority vote of the faculty council.

Section 4:  Students who meet the qualifications will be given the opportunity to apply and if their NHS forms are completed correctly and accurately they will be voted on for citizenship by the faculty. The faculty council will meet taking into account all the information and voting on each candidate.  To become a member it will take a majority vote of the faculty council.
